ORFID Corporation Scientific Advisor Robert H. Grubbs Wins 2005 Nobel Prize in Chemistry
LOS ANGELES, CA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--October 12, 2005—ORFID Corporation, a company
developing an entirely new class of organic electronic technology that will enable manufacturing of
new products such as thin-film flat panel displays, smart labels and intelligent packaging, announced
today its congratulations to Dr. Robert H. Grubbs, Atkins Professor of Chemistry at the California
Institute of Technology (Caltech), and winner of the 2005 Nobel Prize in chemistry. Dr. Grubbs is a
member of ORFID’s Science and Engineering Advisory Board (SEAB).
According to the official statement by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm, Dr.
Grubbs and two other winners will share this year’s prize in chemistry "for the development of the
metathesis method in organic synthesis." Metathesis is an organic reaction that makes many
scientifically and commercially important chemical processes more efficient, and enables the
production of "custom-built" molecules with novel properties.
Dr. Yang Yang, Professor of Engineering and Materials Science at UCLA, and scientific founder of
ORFID, said, "Having a distinguished scientist of Bob’s caliber on ORFID's SEAB is a personal honor
for me, and I extend my congratulations on behalf of my UCLA colleagues and the team at ORFID."
